Let’s End The Year With The Cross

Last year about this same time… My birthday… that happens to fall 5 days before Christmas…. My sweet hubby built me a cross out of cedar logs & wrapped in Christmas lights & put it out in our yard for all to see…That made my Christmas & birthday & one of the sweetest gifts! This year we put it in the front yard for us & anyone who came to our home would see it as the drove up the driveway. It made me happy to drive up & see our white house with  wreaths on every window with big red bows on them & that beautiful cross right out front next to the big oak tree we love. I should have taken a picture but I didn’t, so last years picture will have to do!

Well this year… the cross appears again & not just the lit up one in the yard! There is this special kiddo…who had me at Hello… well actually it was probably a bit more like “Howdy Mrs. Orange”… when we first moved here, this kid was every where we went. He always stood out because of his always up to date mullet cuts & friendliest, countriest voice around that would always speak to you & with a smile. I found myself wanting to keep him encouraged, make sure he was behavin himself, going to school, you know all that stuff. I found myself worried a little when I didn’t see him for a while & just hoping he was ok. His name is Mitchell & he doesn’t know a stranger. He will interject himself into everything going on & might even give you a piece of his mind. I just love the kid! I will never forget the first time he stopped by our house… helping Noah with something I am sure… I offered him some supper because it was ready. Well, his grandmother is his normal cook & she cooks country as cornbread & that’s what he knows & that’s what he loves. Our family, on the other hand, will eat some country food but can also go for any cousine. This night I was making some Korean beef & broccoli with ramen noodles. Bless his heart for trying it, but just not his thing. But ever so polite about it. It sure made me wish I had cooked something he did like because he was at our home.

I think it was just days before my bday & in the season of Christmas with all the hustle & bustle…. we were at a basketball game… and This sweet child gave me a gift. It is one of the sweetest gifts because it was so unexpected & from someone who had always tugged on my heartstrings & he probably didn’t even know it. You just never know what someone will pick out for you that really doesn’t know you? That day, he had took a little trip with Noah to pick up a dirt bike & Noah took him to Cracker Barrel in a tiny little town to eat. They said it was the smallest Cracker Barrell they had ever been too!! It was like in a funny name place too.. I think something like Possum Trot Kentucky. It was just funny listening to Noah describe the place.

Well, anyways… He gave me a CROSS necklace! I just about cried & very touched that not only would he want to buy me a gift… but that is what he picked out for me? Well it was just so sweet & soothing to my soul. I love these little ways God can speak to us… That reminder of Him being the only thing that matters during the biggest season of them all… & to keep focused on that… on the light of the cross in my yard… on the sparkling cross around my neck. It gives me strength when things like this happen.

As we say goodbye to 2022… may we all remember what is most important…. Our Savior…Who was born at Christmas & gave his life for us on that Cross.. So we can come & live the Best Season Of All….. ETERNITY WITH HIM!

It’s The Best Time Of The Year!

It’s the season… The Season for Jesus! The time where sweet surprises happen, little moments of joy suddenly appear, laughter overtakes the room, silence sits us still in a time of reflection. It’s a busy time of cheering ourselves for hours upon hours at basketball games, a time when yummy food delights our tastes buds &familiar faces warm our hearts. The smell of pine & lights galore give us the twinkling traditions of gifts for our loved ones, memories are made, cookies are baked, spontaneous trips for me & Nate out of town to pick up Christmas gifts that require us to drive to St. Louis. for a kitten that’s cute as can be! One of my favorite things is that small town parade of sounds & floats to get us in the spirit while snuggled up with family & friends under blankets. It’s the season for cozy fires & Christmas movies & pretty scarves for the cold weather.
Not to mention the Santa Suits that looked particularly cute on someone I know very well! It’s been a crazy busy month & season but I wouldn’t change it! How we pack so much in to one month I could never tell you! Some days it’s hard to take it all in, & that’s why I love all the pictures to remind myself of the Best Season Of All!

Until Next Year…. Keep on laughing.. it’s really the best look of all❤️ Nothing better than pictures of my happy Mama!
